Hydraulic Piston Seal Solutions by Polypac
High Quality piston sealing for demanding hydraulics
Polypac specializes in hydraulic piston seal production and customized sealing solutions. Our hydraulic piston seal range is engineered for pressure stability, low friction and long service life in mobile and industrial hydraulic cylinders. Backed by more than a decade of material science expertise, Polypac delivers reliable sealing performance across a wide range of operating temperatures and pressures.
Materials engineered for performance
We design piston seals using filled PTFE formulations (bronze, carbon, graphite, MoS₂, glass) and high-performance elastomers including NBR, FKM, silicone, EPDM and FFKM. This material diversity lets us optimize wear resistance, extrusion resistance and chemical compatibility for each hydraulic piston seal application, reducing downtime and maintenance costs.
Custom manufacturing and advanced testing
Polypac's custom rubber ring and O-ring factory spans over 10,000 m² with 8,000 m² of production space and industry-leading equipment. Our in-house testing labs and process controls ensure each hydraulic piston seal meets dimensional tolerances, surface finish and endurance standards. We collaborate with universities and research institutes to continuously refine sealing compounds and manufacturing techniques.
Design flexibility and application fit
Whether you need standard piston seals or bespoke geometries for extreme environments, Polypac offers tailored designs for high-pressure cylinders, servo valves, telescopic booms and subsea systems. Our engineers optimize cross-sections, lip profiles and back-up configurations to maximize sealing life and system efficiency.

Can I reuse a seal?
We strongly recommend never reusing seals. Once compressed and used, a seal takes a "set" and its elastic properties are degraded. Reusing it almost always results in a leak. Always install a new seal during any maintenance or repair.
How can I prevent seal damage during installation?
Use Tools: Always use dedicated installation tools (e.g., picks, cones, guides). Lubricate: Always lubricate the seal and the contact surface. Protect Sharp Edges: Cover sharp threads and edges with tape or use an installation sleeve. Check the Groove: Ensure the installation groove is clean, deburred, and undamaged.
When should I use a spring-energized seal instead of a standard elastomeric seal?
Consider a spring-energized seal (e.g., GSF, SPN types) for demanding applications involving: Extreme Temperatures (below -30°C or above +200°C) Aggressive Chemicals that elastomers can't handle Very Low Leakage or "Zero Leakage" requirements Poor Lubricity or dry running conditions The internal spring maintains constant sealing force, compensating for wear and system variables.
How do I choose the right material for my sealing application?
Material selection depends on four key factors: Media: What fluid or gas will the seal contact? (e.g., petroleum oil, water, chemicals, steam) Temperature: What is the minimum and maximum operating temperature? Pressure: What is the system's operating pressure? Are there pressure spikes? Application: Is it a static, dynamic, or rotary seal? Example: NBR (Buna-N) is excellent for standard hydraulic oil, while FKM (Viton®) is needed for high temperatures or aggressive chemicals.
What is the difference between NBR and FKM materials?
NBR (Nitrile/Buna-N): A general-purpose, cost-effective material with excellent resistance to petroleum-based oils and fuels. It has a standard temperature range of -30°C to +100°C (-22°F to +212°F). FKM (Fluoroelastomer/Viton®): A premium material with excellent resistance to high temperatures (up to 200°C+), chemicals, and oils. It is used in more severe environments but is more expensive than NBR.
