Low Friction Seals - Polypac Hydraulic Seals & O-Rings
Low Friction Seals — Polypac Hydraulic Seal Solutions
Why Choose Polypac Low Friction Seals?
Polypac specializes in Low Friction Seals designed to minimize frictional losses, reduce heat generation, and extend component life in hydraulic systems. Since 2008 we have focused on scientific seal manufacturing, delivering solutions that improve efficiency and reliability for mobile hydraulics, industrial cylinders, and rotating equipment. Choosing Polypac means access to proven materials, industry-leading production capacity, and collaborative R&D partnerships.
Advanced Materials & Proven Technology
Our Low Friction Seals leverage decades of PTFE expertise — including bronze-filled PTFE, carbon-filled PTFE, graphite PTFE, MoS2-filled PTFE and glass-filled PTFE — alongside high-performance elastomers such as NBR, FKM, silicone, EPDM and FFKM O-rings. These combinations reduce stick-slip, lower running torque, and resist extrusion and wear even in extreme temperatures and contamination-prone environments.
Performance Benefits & Applications
Low friction sealing translates directly to savings: lower energy consumption, reduced heat and wear, longer maintenance intervals, and superior sealing under dynamic motion. Polypac Low Friction Seals are ideal for hydraulic cylinders, valves, pumps, rotary shafts and specialty equipment operating under high speed, high pressure, or abrasive conditions.
Customization, Testing & Quality Assurance
Our custom rubber ring and O-ring factory spans over 10,000 m² with 8,000 m² of production space and advanced testing equipment. Polypac offers tailored seal geometries, compound formulations and surface finishes to meet special working conditions. We maintain long-term cooperation with universities and research institutes to validate performance through fatigue, friction, and wear testing.
Delivery, Support & Technical Partnership
Polypac provides rapid prototyping, scalable production and worldwide shipping for custom Low Friction Seals. Our technical team supports material selection, simulation and sealing design to ensure optimal life and efficiency. Contact Polypac for specification guidance, samples, and turnkey sealing solutions backed by rigorous quality control.

What is the purpose of the metal spring in a rotary shaft seal?
The garter spring in a shaft seal (e.g., FSKR, SPGO types) provides a constant radial force on the sealing lip. This ensures consistent contact with the rotating shaft, compensating for minor wear, eccentricity, and vibration to prevent lubricant leakage.
What is the difference between a static seal and a dynamic seal?
A Static Seal is used between two surfaces that do not move relative to each other (e.g., pipe flanges, end caps). O-rings and gaskets are common static seals. A Dynamic Seal is used between surfaces that do move (e.g., piston and cylinder, rotating shaft). Rod seals, piston seals, and rotary shaft seals are designed for this purpose.
When should I use a spring-energized seal instead of a standard elastomeric seal?
Consider a spring-energized seal (e.g., GSF, SPN types) for demanding applications involving: Extreme Temperatures (below -30°C or above +200°C) Aggressive Chemicals that elastomers can't handle Very Low Leakage or "Zero Leakage" requirements Poor Lubricity or dry running conditions The internal spring maintains constant sealing force, compensating for wear and system variables.
Can I reuse a seal?
We strongly recommend never reusing seals. Once compressed and used, a seal takes a "set" and its elastic properties are degraded. Reusing it almost always results in a leak. Always install a new seal during any maintenance or repair.
What is the difference between NBR and FKM materials?
NBR (Nitrile/Buna-N): A general-purpose, cost-effective material with excellent resistance to petroleum-based oils and fuels. It has a standard temperature range of -30°C to +100°C (-22°F to +212°F). FKM (Fluoroelastomer/Viton®): A premium material with excellent resistance to high temperatures (up to 200°C+), chemicals, and oils. It is used in more severe environments but is more expensive than NBR.
