Pressure Balancing Seal Solutions by Polypac
Overview — Reliable Pressure Balancing Seal Technology
Polypac designs and manufactures Pressure Balancing Seals engineered to stabilize pressure differentials in hydraulic and oil systems. Built on our deep expertise in filled PTFE and advanced elastomers, these seals minimize extrusion, maintain dynamic stability, and extend service life under fluctuating pressures and temperatures. Our solutions are tailored for valves, pistons, cylinders and rotary equipment that require precise pressure compensation.
Features & Benefits — Performance You Can Trust
Pressure Balancing Seals from Polypac offer controlled deformation and low friction thanks to materials such as bronze-filled PTFE, carbon-filled PTFE, MoS2-filled PTFE and glass-filled PTFE. Combined with precision-molded O-rings in NBR, FKM, EPDM, silicone and FFKM, our seals provide superior wear resistance, chemical compatibility, and leakage control. Benefits include improved cycle life, reduced maintenance, and consistent sealing under variable loads.
Materials & Customization — Engineered for Special Conditions
Polypac’s custom rubber ring and O-ring factory (10,000+ m² facility with 8,000 m² production area) offers rapid prototyping and bespoke formulations for hostile environments. We collaborate with universities and research institutes to optimize compound selection and geometry for each Pressure Balancing Seal application—whether extreme temperature, aggressive media, or tight installation space. Custom sizes, multi-lip profiles, and compound tuning are standard options.
Manufacturing & Quality Assurance — Proven Process Control
Founded in 2008, Polypac combines advanced production and testing equipment with strict QC protocols. Each Pressure Balancing Seal undergoes dimensional inspection, material certification, and performance testing to ensure reliability in high-pressure applications. Our laboratory testing replicates real-world conditions to validate leakage rates, frictional torque, and long-term durability.
Applications & Support — From Design to Delivery
Typical applications include hydraulic pumps, directional control valves, subsea actuators, and high-speed rotating shafts. Polypac provides application engineering, CAD-supported design reviews, and scalable manufacturing to meet OEM and aftermarket needs. Contact Polypac for consultation and sample evaluation to optimize your pressure balancing seal solution.

How can I prevent seal damage during installation?
Use Tools: Always use dedicated installation tools (e.g., picks, cones, guides). Lubricate: Always lubricate the seal and the contact surface. Protect Sharp Edges: Cover sharp threads and edges with tape or use an installation sleeve. Check the Groove: Ensure the installation groove is clean, deburred, and undamaged.
When should I use a spring-energized seal instead of a standard elastomeric seal?
Consider a spring-energized seal (e.g., GSF, SPN types) for demanding applications involving: Extreme Temperatures (below -30°C or above +200°C) Aggressive Chemicals that elastomers can't handle Very Low Leakage or "Zero Leakage" requirements Poor Lubricity or dry running conditions The internal spring maintains constant sealing force, compensating for wear and system variables.
How important is surface finish on the metal parts that contact the seal?
Extremely important. A rough surface will abrade and wear out the seal quickly, causing leaks. A finish that is too smooth can prevent a lubricating film from forming. A typical recommended surface finish for dynamic applications is 0.2 to 0.8 μm (8-32 μin) Ra.
What is the difference between a static seal and a dynamic seal?
A Static Seal is used between two surfaces that do not move relative to each other (e.g., pipe flanges, end caps). O-rings and gaskets are common static seals. A Dynamic Seal is used between surfaces that do move (e.g., piston and cylinder, rotating shaft). Rod seals, piston seals, and rotary shaft seals are designed for this purpose.
