Rod Seal Solutions for High Pressure Application — Polypac
Rod Seal High Pressure Application Solutions by Polypac
Overview: engineered for demanding environments
Polypac designs rod seals for high pressure application, delivering reliable sealing in hydraulic cylinders, mobile machinery and industrial equipment. Our seal category emphasizes long service life, low friction and consistent performance under cyclic loads and pressure spikes. Whether retrofitting existing systems or specifying seals for new designs, Polypac provides solutions that reduce downtime and operating costs.
Materials & performance: advanced compounds for extreme duty
We leverage decades of materials science expertise, offering filled PTFE variants (bronze, carbon, graphite, MoS₂, glass) and high-performance elastomers (NBR, FKM, silicone, EPDM, FFKM). These formulations are optimized for sealability, wear resistance and thermal stability—critical attributes for any rod seal high pressure application. The result: minimal extrusion, excellent chemical compatibility and superior friction control across temperature ranges.
Customization & testing: tailored designs, validated results
Polypac’s 10,000+ m² manufacturing hub and advanced testing lab enable rapid prototyping and rigorous validation. We customize cross-sections, lip geometry and backup designs to suit pressure, speed and fluid type. Each rod seal undergoes pressure cycling, extrusion resistance and friction testing—ensuring the component meets specified performance targets for your high pressure application.
Applications & industries: where our rod seals excel
Our rod seals are widely used in construction, mining, oil & gas, marine hydraulics and aerospace ground equipment. The seals perform under high static and dynamic pressures, in contaminated environments and where long intervals between service are required. Polypac’s solutions improve system reliability and help OEMs meet stringent uptime and safety requirements.
Why choose Polypac: proven expertise and service
Founded in 2008, Polypac combines academic partnerships with industry-leading production to deliver dependable rod seal high pressure application products. From material development to on-site technical support and global logistics, we partner with clients to solve sealing challenges and extend equipment life. Can I reuse a seal?
We strongly recommend never reusing seals. Once compressed and used, a seal takes a "set" and its elastic properties are degraded. Reusing it almost always results in a leak. Always install a new seal during any maintenance or repair.
What does "AS568" mean?
AS568 is the Aerospace Standard that defines the dimensions for over 360 standard O-ring sizes. It is the most widely accepted sizing system in North America and globally. An AS568 number (e.g., AS568-214) specifies a precise inside diameter and cross-section.
How can I prevent seal damage during installation?
Use Tools: Always use dedicated installation tools (e.g., picks, cones, guides). Lubricate: Always lubricate the seal and the contact surface. Protect Sharp Edges: Cover sharp threads and edges with tape or use an installation sleeve. Check the Groove: Ensure the installation groove is clean, deburred, and undamaged.
What is the difference between NBR and FKM materials?
NBR (Nitrile/Buna-N): A general-purpose, cost-effective material with excellent resistance to petroleum-based oils and fuels. It has a standard temperature range of -30°C to +100°C (-22°F to +212°F). FKM (Fluoroelastomer/Viton®): A premium material with excellent resistance to high temperatures (up to 200°C+), chemicals, and oils. It is used in more severe environments but is more expensive than NBR.
