Steel Case Wiper | Polypac Hydraulic Seal Experts
Steel Case Wiper — Polypac
Overview
Polypac Steel Case Wipers are engineered to protect hydraulic cylinders from contaminants, extending seal life and system reliability. Combining a rigid steel case with precision elastomeric wiping lips, our wipers offer consistent scraping performance, low friction and excellent dimensional stability. Designed for heavy-duty and high-cycle applications, Steel Case Wipers are a cost-effective first line of defense for pumps, cylinders and mobile equipment.
Materials & Compatibility
We use a range of sealing compounds and fillers developed from our decades of sealing expertise, including NBR, FKM, EPDM, silicone and specialty PTFE blends. The steel case provides structural support while the tailored lip material ensures compatibility with hydraulic oils, greases and additive packages. Polypac’s material selection process balances abrasion resistance, elasticity and chemical compatibility to minimize wear and prevent leakage under varied temperatures and pressures.
Manufacturing & Quality
Manufactured in our advanced 8,000 m² production facility, each Steel Case Wiper undergoes precision molding, assembly and rigorous testing. Polypac integrates automated inspection and custom tooling to ensure concentricity and consistent lip geometry. Our collaborations with universities and research institutes, plus years of PTFE and elastomer development, guarantee products that meet industry standards and your custom specifications.
Applications & Benefits
Steel Case Wipers are ideal for construction, agricultural, hydraulic presses, and industrial machinery where contamination can accelerate seal failure. Benefits include improved service intervals, reduced maintenance costs, and enhanced system uptime. Their robust design resists extrusion, maintains wiper contact under misalignment, and performs reliably across a broad temperature range.
Customization & Ordering
Polypac offers custom sizes, profiles and compound formulations to suit special working conditions. From single prototypes to large production runs, our sealing solutions are tailored for performance and longevity. Contact Polypac to specify dimensions, material preferences and application parameters — our technical team will recommend an optimized Steel Case Wiper solution and support rapid prototyping and testing.

What does "AS568" mean?
AS568 is the Aerospace Standard that defines the dimensions for over 360 standard O-ring sizes. It is the most widely accepted sizing system in North America and globally. An AS568 number (e.g., AS568-214) specifies a precise inside diameter and cross-section.
Can I reuse a seal?
We strongly recommend never reusing seals. Once compressed and used, a seal takes a "set" and its elastic properties are degraded. Reusing it almost always results in a leak. Always install a new seal during any maintenance or repair.
What is the difference between NBR and FKM materials?
NBR (Nitrile/Buna-N): A general-purpose, cost-effective material with excellent resistance to petroleum-based oils and fuels. It has a standard temperature range of -30°C to +100°C (-22°F to +212°F). FKM (Fluoroelastomer/Viton®): A premium material with excellent resistance to high temperatures (up to 200°C+), chemicals, and oils. It is used in more severe environments but is more expensive than NBR.
When should I use a spring-energized seal instead of a standard elastomeric seal?
Consider a spring-energized seal (e.g., GSF, SPN types) for demanding applications involving: Extreme Temperatures (below -30°C or above +200°C) Aggressive Chemicals that elastomers can't handle Very Low Leakage or "Zero Leakage" requirements Poor Lubricity or dry running conditions The internal spring maintains constant sealing force, compensating for wear and system variables.
What is the difference between a static seal and a dynamic seal?
A Static Seal is used between two surfaces that do not move relative to each other (e.g., pipe flanges, end caps). O-rings and gaskets are common static seals. A Dynamic Seal is used between surfaces that do move (e.g., piston and cylinder, rotating shaft). Rod seals, piston seals, and rotary shaft seals are designed for this purpose.
