Polypac Straight Cylinder Seals — Reliable, Custom Solutions
Straight Cylinder Seals by Polypac — Precision for Every Cylinder
Overview: engineered for performance
Polypac Straight Cylinder Seals are engineered to deliver dependable sealing in linear hydraulic and pneumatic applications. Designed for low friction, high wear resistance, and long service life, our straight cylinder seals support stable cylinder operation across diverse industries. Backed by decades of material science and field-tested designs, these seals help reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
Materials & performance options
We offer Straight Cylinder Seals manufactured from advanced filled PTFE (bronze, carbon, graphite, MoS₂, glass) and elastomers (NBR, FKM, silicone, EPDM, FFKM). This material variety allows optimization for temperature, chemical exposure, pressure and sliding speed. Polypac’s material R&D ensures each seal balances friction, resilience and extrusion resistance for the target working condition.
Custom manufacturing & scale
Polypac’s custom rubber ring and O‑ring factory spans over 10,000 m² with 8,000 m² of production space and industry-leading equipment. We specialize in bespoke Straight Cylinder Seals to match bore tolerances, shaft finishes and operating parameters. From prototyping to high-volume runs, our capacity supports rapid turnaround and consistent quality.
Quality assurance & testing
Every Straight Cylinder Seal undergoes rigorous testing — dimensional inspection, material verification, dynamic wear tests and endurance trials. Our partnerships with universities and research institutions enable continuous improvements and validation against international standards, ensuring seals perform in harsh, special working conditions.
Applications & benefits
Ideal for construction machinery, industrial presses, agricultural equipment and precision actuators, Polypac Straight Cylinder Seals reduce leakage and extend maintenance intervals. Customers benefit from tailored sealing solutions, technical support, and proven reliability across temperature and pressure extremes.

What is the difference between NBR and FKM materials?
NBR (Nitrile/Buna-N): A general-purpose, cost-effective material with excellent resistance to petroleum-based oils and fuels. It has a standard temperature range of -30°C to +100°C (-22°F to +212°F). FKM (Fluoroelastomer/Viton®): A premium material with excellent resistance to high temperatures (up to 200°C+), chemicals, and oils. It is used in more severe environments but is more expensive than NBR.
How do I choose the right material for my sealing application?
Material selection depends on four key factors: Media: What fluid or gas will the seal contact? (e.g., petroleum oil, water, chemicals, steam) Temperature: What is the minimum and maximum operating temperature? Pressure: What is the system's operating pressure? Are there pressure spikes? Application: Is it a static, dynamic, or rotary seal? Example: NBR (Buna-N) is excellent for standard hydraulic oil, while FKM (Viton®) is needed for high temperatures or aggressive chemicals.
When should I use a spring-energized seal instead of a standard elastomeric seal?
Consider a spring-energized seal (e.g., GSF, SPN types) for demanding applications involving: Extreme Temperatures (below -30°C or above +200°C) Aggressive Chemicals that elastomers can't handle Very Low Leakage or "Zero Leakage" requirements Poor Lubricity or dry running conditions The internal spring maintains constant sealing force, compensating for wear and system variables.
How important is surface finish on the metal parts that contact the seal?
Extremely important. A rough surface will abrade and wear out the seal quickly, causing leaks. A finish that is too smooth can prevent a lubricating film from forming. A typical recommended surface finish for dynamic applications is 0.2 to 0.8 μm (8-32 μin) Ra.
What is the difference between a static seal and a dynamic seal?
A Static Seal is used between two surfaces that do not move relative to each other (e.g., pipe flanges, end caps). O-rings and gaskets are common static seals. A Dynamic Seal is used between surfaces that do move (e.g., piston and cylinder, rotating shaft). Rod seals, piston seals, and rotary shaft seals are designed for this purpose.
